Last Sunday was a glorious day at Bristol Federated Church! We shared lots of joy, laughter and many tears as we celebrated God’s love doing a “new thing” among us! Over sixty of us joined together to bless and hang a flag at the church door to gently wave in welcome to ALL of God’s children. We heard words from representatives of the United Church of Christ, and the United Methodist Church. We laid hands on the fabric of the flag and prayed:
“Renew our commitment to make this a household of faith for all people – gay, bisexual, lesbian, transgender, and straight – that all who worship and minister here may know the grace and challenge of faith.”
And we sang songs of love and hope.
In all of this, we are reminded that hanging a flag and declaring our affirming welcome are only the beginning of a journey along “new paths” toward God’s Kingdom. It will require faithful work to continue to grow in love for each other and all God’s children. May God bless us along the way.
 

We also celebrated Eldon Sherwin’s 90th Birthday with a rousing rendition of “Happy Birthday” and a delicious cake!
 
 

Lenten Bible Study

Please join Mary Van Tol for a Lenten study beginning on Thursday, February 8 for 6 weeks. 7:00 PM-8:00 PM via Zoom.

"Finding Jesus in the Psalms, A Lenten Journey" by Barb Roose guides the reader through a meaningful encounter with the Psalms through the season of Lent. Combining an interpretation of the psalms with real life stories, the study moves through the familiar words of Psalm 23 toward the painful cries of Psalm 22 uttered by Jesus on the cross. The study includes reflections on the life of King David and the original context of the writings, along with connections between the psalms and the life and death of Jesus the Messiah. MEET OUR LEADERSHIP TEAM

Mike Brown

Mike jumps in to help whenever he sees a need or opportunity to serve. He is well known as our cheerleader at the Fourth of July pie sale on the park, you can hear him barking “pie for breakfast, get it here!” He attends meetings and was on the committee that brought Pastor Chris to us. Mike is always cheerful and friendly in all he does, whether it is setting up or cleaning up at events and fun raisers or helping out with building maintenance. Mike was there to help paint and clean at the parsonage when getting it ready for a new occupant. He routinely changes signs and gives rides to anyone in need. Mike has recently learned to run the sound booth. He has made many dump runs, and cleared snow from the parsonage driveway. He enjoys holiday decorating at the church with his wife Debbie and together they get the space ready for us all to enjoy. We are so fortunate to have Mike in our church family.
