“See, I am doing a new thing!
Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?
I am making a way in the wilderness
and streams in the wasteland.” Isaiah 43:19 Dear Friends, Sometimes, when things change, it is hard to see the possible good that might come of the change. It is hard to see what God is doing. But God is always making a “way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.” God is always doing a new thing! Right now, as we try to envision Bristol Federated Church without Jennifer Corrigan as our Family Life Coordinator (and so much more!), it is hard for us to imagine what that future will look like. I know I’ve come to rely on Jennifer’s unique blend of knowledge of both church life, and community life. As the “new guy,” she was my “go-to” to get answers to the many questions. To which she always responded with a smile and a straightforward answer. I’ve come to know that she is extremely organized, persistent, and humble. That is to say she gets things done, but never stands in the limelight. Messy Church will stand as just one of the many legacies of Jennifer’s gifts. And so it is hard to imagine how things will get done without her. But things will get done. It might be hard to see the new thing God is doing as we prepare for the time after Jennifer, but, with faith, we will begin to perceive the “way in the wilderness” and the “streams in the wasteland.” For the moment, it will be right to pause and give thanks for all the wonderful (and messy) things that God has done through Jennifer.
