Pillars of Faith In Our Church Community

Mary-Kate’s Story

“The Lord your God is with you,

He is mighty to save,

He will take great delight in you,

He will quiet you with His love,

He will rejoice over you with singing”

~Zephaniah 3:17

Life throws us curveballs we don’t expect. About 10 months ago, an unhealthy relationship in my life ended. While confused, sad, and angry initially, I am so thankful it ended. I was reminded the Lord’s way is much better than anything I can imagine or plan. Over the past 8 months, I’ve had Zephaniah 3:17 as the background of my phone to remind me of the way that God views myself and all of His Beloved. He wants me to be with someone who looks at me the way that He looks at me.

Over this time, I’ve reflected about who I am in God’s image and how that changes what I believe, how I act, and who I am at the core. It’s challenged my faith and taught me that in order to be a pillar of faith, we must treat each other similarly to the way God adores us.

God delights in you, rejoices over you, and holds you whether you are sad, joyful, scared or angry. Shouldn’t that be the way we treat each other? What if our relationships truly reflected His love for us? Even reflecting it to the people we don’t know or the people we know and drive us crazy? We all have someone who annoys us, who we might try not to run into because we just “don’t want to deal with them”. We need to remember that God looks at them the same way He looks at you.

A pillar of faith believes in God and knows who He is. They understand how He loves His people. They reflect it in how they treat people. They stand firm in the love of God. Remember how God looks at and loves you. No matter your type of day, week, year you have, you can always remind yourself of how God’s love can transform ourselves and others. Fill yourself with His love and let it radiate out to others.
